December 18, 2025 - Amazfit, a leading global smart wearables brand owned by Zepp Health, today announced a landmark partnership with Amanal Petros, one of the best marathon runners in Europe and the world. The silver medalist at the most recent World Championships over the royal distance, and more recently the author of the third-fastest marathon time in European history, will train with the Amazfit wearables: Balance 2 and Helio Strap.
Petros has represented Germany in long-distance running for over 10 years. During this time, he has broken national records on several occasions. In 2023, he ran 10 km in 27:32, and in the past year in Berlin he first completed a half marathon in 59:31, and recently ran a 2:04:03 marathon in Valencia. Petros’s phenomenal marathon time placed him third on the European all-time list.
"We are incredibly excited to welcome Amanal Petros to Team Amazfit. He is an outstanding athlete whose talent and determination have been proven not only by his recent race in Valencia but by his entire career. His achievements reflect immense sporting passion and unwavering dedication. We believe that together we will achieve many remarkable successes", says Jesús Carrero, General Manager of Zepp Health EMEA.
“This year has been exceptional for me, but my records would not have been possible without years of hard work. Today I am doubly happy — Amazfit has recognized and valued my long-term commitment, while also offering outstanding sports wearables. And I know what I’m talking about", says Amanal Petros. "For years I trained and competed using different brands. In Valencia I ran the marathon with Amazfit Balance 2, so I had an excellent point of comparison in terms of measurement accuracy. In this respect, the Balance 2 was outstanding. It recorded the distance almost perfectly and measured my pace very accurately, which was crucial for the race strategy I had chosen. I am very happy to be an Amazfit Athlete.”
Masterful Pace Control: How Petros Ran a Marathon in 2:04:03
There were still a few kilometers to go before the finish, but the brief moment captured by the TV camera said more than the words of the experts commenting on the marathon in Valencia. At that moment, while most marathoners—including elite runners—were already suffering tremendously, Amanal Petros turned to the runner next to him with a smile, exchanged a few words, and gave a high five. A few minutes later, the marathon runner crossed the finish line with a phenomenal time of 2:04:03.
But data recorded by his Balance 2, suggests one thing: Petros can run even faster:
- The German representative ran the marathon at a pace of 2:57/km, but did not spend a single second in the fifth - the highest heart rate zone (171–190 bpm).
- For most of the race (1 hour 16 minutes and 39 seconds), Amanal Petros ran in the fourth zone (152–170 bpm), with his heart rate usually staying below 160 bpm, only slightly exceeding it on uphill sections (maximum 165 bpm).
- He ran the last 7 kilometers averaging 2:52 min/km, with kilometers 41 and 42 covered at a pace below 2:50 min/km. His stride then lengthened to over 2 meters!
- The Balance 2 measured distance and pace with almost surgical precision. It showed completing a marathon distance in 2 hours, 3 minutes, and 27 seconds, which meant a margin of error of less than one second per kilometer.
Petros Gives a High Five
In Valencia, Amanal Petros ran on his own terms, controlling every kilometer.
“I was very well prepared and felt excellent on race day. The first half of the distance posed no problem. The slightly bigger challenge was two longer uphill sections between kilometers 20 and 35. After that, fatigue gradually set in, but from km 36 onwards it was downhill—literally and figuratively,” Petros admits.
Data recorded by the Balance 2 confirms his strong condition. Up to 7 km, the German athlete ran in the third heart rate zone (133–151 bpm), and he completed the first 10 km in 29 minutes and 28 seconds, equating to a pace of 2:57/km.
Petros maintained almost the same pace for the next 20 km. He passed the halfway point in 1 hour 2 minutes and 23 seconds, and reached 30 km in 1 hour 28 minutes and 27 seconds. During this time, his heart rate ranged from 152 to 162 bpm.
"At 30 km, the second uphill began. Some runners started to slow down, but I still felt strong and confident, and decided to slightly accelerate,” Petros recalls.
The German representative covered the next 10 km at an average pace of 2:53/km. His heart rate stayed slightly above 150 bpm, straddling the third and fourth zones. Despite the strong sun, from km 36 a gentle downhill began.
“My legs were already tired. I chatted briefly with the runner next to me, we high-fived, smiled, and when I checked my watch at km 40, I was already certain I would beat my personal best,” Petros shares.
Stride Length of 2 Meters
At km 40, the Amazfit Balance 2 showed 1 hour 57 minutes and 21 seconds, a pace of 2:55/km, and a heart rate of 149 bpm. Petros then pushed for his final fastest segment, increasing his pace to 2:45–2:49/km and lengthening his stride to over 2 meters!
At the finish line, he needed barely a fifth of a second to launch his final push, generating 470W of power—almost twice the limit allowed for e-bike motors in the EU. That was enough for the German athlete to cross the finish line in 2 hours 4 minutes and 3 seconds, setting not only a new personal best (improved by 55 seconds) but also a national record and the third-best European marathon time in history.
“More than a week has passed since my start in Valencia, but only now, as the fatigue fades, do I realize the success that required tremendous effort, which Amazfit recognized. The Valencia Marathon was my third royal-distance race this season—first in London, then in Tokyo, where I narrowly missed the world championship gold. That, however, motivated me immensely to fight for a new German record in Valencia,” says Amanal Petros, adding: “Now it’s time to rest, and then the next goal: a marathon in London, with Amazfit wearable support!”
